Robert Haynes


NORWICH – Robert L. “Tex” Haynes, 79, a life long resident of the Norwich area passed away Saturday afternoon, Nov. 26, 2011, in the Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Tex was born in Norwich the son of Raymond and Gladys Simmons Haynes in June of 1932. He grew up in Norwich and was a graduate of the Norwich High School. In January of 1952 he entered the United States Air Force and served his country until his honorable discharge in Dec. of 1955. On Dec. 26, 1953 in Norwich, he married Jean Figary, who survives.
Tex was a 49 year employee of GLA and its successors. He began with the company in its infancy where he remained until his retirement in 1998 from Unison. He was a man with a quick wit and his own sense of humor which at times might leave you wondering where he was coming from. Tex was an avid golfer and on any given day could be found on the golf course. He was a member of the Norwich Elk’s Lodge #1222 and the American Legion Post #189.
Tex is survived by his wife Jean of Norwich; his son Wade Haynes and his wife Sharon of Beacon Falls, CT; his daughter Nancy Smithson and her husband Philip of Seabrook Beach, NH; his grandchildren Cali MacDonald and her husband Miles, Tyler Smithson and wife Laura, Robert Joseph and Samantha Link and his great grandchildren Mason and Camden MacDonald. He was predeceased by his brothers Donald and Thomas Haynes.
At Tex’s request there will be no formal funeral services.
