Bruno Benson


NEW BERLIN – Bruno Olson Benson, 87 years old, of New Berlin, passed away on Nov. 24, 2011 at Chase Memorial Nursing Home, New Berlin.
He was born on Dec. 20, 1923 on the family farm in New Berlin the son of Manfred & Annie (Olson) Benson. His childhood was spent in New Berlin where he was a 1941 graduate of New Berlin Central School.
On Oct. 6, 1951 Bruno married Esther Lenora Lund in New Berlin. She predeceased him on Nov. 28, 1984.
Bruno proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1943-1946 during World War II as a corporal receiving the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, The Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, Philippines Liberation Ribbon and American Service Medal. He was later employed at Bendix Corporation of Sidney for 35 years as a machinist.
He is survived by his children; Ronald Benson of New Berlin, Donald Benson of Oneonta, Gerald Benson of North Boro, Mass., and a step daughter; Connie Dineen of Denver, Colo.; 6 grandchildren; his sisters; Gladys Austin of Norwich, Grace Gustafson of Norwich, Anne Marie Hume of Edmeston and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by one step-daughter Carol Kay Carlson, two brothers, Alf and Fred Benson and one sister, Martha Benson Groff.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Dakin Funeral Home LP, New Berlin, with the Very Reverend Charles Taylor officiating. Calling hours will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the funeral service.
The interment will be held in the Fairview Cemetery, New Berlin.
