HAMILTON – Lucia Gray Upham, 101 years, of Madison Lane Apartments, passed away Saturday, Dec. 9, 2006 at Community Memorial Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility.
She was born Oct. 21, 1905 in North Brookfield, the daughter of Frank and Olive King Gray. She was a 1928 graduate of Morrisville Ag & Tech College and a 1934 graduate of Cortland Normal School. She was an elementary school teacher at the Lebanon Grade School until 1956. From 1956 until her retirement in 1968, she taught at the Earlville Central School. Lucia married Howard Upham on August 19, 1930 in Brookfield. He predeceased her on December 5, 1983.  Mrs. Upham had lived in Lebanon from 1930 until moving to Hamilton in 1972. She had spent winters in Zephyrhills, Fla. from 1980 until 1995.
Mrs. Upham was a member, deaconess and past treasurer of the Lebanon Federated Church; she was a life member of the New York State Retired Teachers Assoc., a member of the Madison County Retired Teachers Assoc.; a member and Past Noble Grand of the Madinango Rebekah Lodge #563 of Earlville; member and Past Matron of the O.E.S. Oriental Chapter #119 of Georgetown and the Hamilton Chapter #511; Past District Deputy of the Cortland-Madison O.E.S. District.
Surviving is her daughter, Mrs. Myron Dereck (Judie) Wilson of Earlville; a granddaughter, Michele Bailey of Earlville; a granddaughter-in-law, Robin Wilson of Earlville; three great-grandchildren, Ashley and Logan Bailey and Michael Dereck Wilson, Jr.; three nephews, Grayson Smith of Marathon, Dexter Gray of Tenn. and Dudley Gray of Texas; a sister-in-law, Viola Gray of TN. She was predeceased by a brother, Garie M. Gray, a sister, Vera Gray Smith, and a grandson, Michael Dereck Wilson in 1994.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday from the Lebanon Federated Church, followed by burial in the Hillside Cemetery, Georgetown.
Friends are invited to call at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 25 Broad St., Hamilton on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m.
At Lucia’s request there will be no Eastern Star service.
