T. John Haley


NORWICH – T. John Haley, 95, of Fayetteville, died peacefully in his sleep on Monday after several years of failing health. Mr. Haley was born in Norwich, NY and had lived in the Syracuse area since 1943. He was a graduate of Norwich High School and Syracuse University with a major in accounting. Mr. Haley joined the Internal Revenue Service in 1943. He had a three year break in service being employed at a CPA firm, after which he rejoined the IRS. He was a public accountant and held the privilege to practice before the Internal Revenue Service. Mr. Haley retired in 1988 as an Internal Revenue Agent in the large case group and as an insurance specialist. He taught taxation and accounting at various Service Schools.
Mr. Haley was a dedicated family man, a joyful spirit, keeper of many friends. He was active in golf, bird hunting, fishing, and skiing. He was a former member of the Lost Pond Club, Grouse Unlimited, 70+ Ski Club and currently a member of the B.P.O.E. of Norwich. Mr. Haley was a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church of Fayetteville. He was predeceased by his daughter Marcia H. Gruenewald.
Survivors: include his wife of 62 years, Jean S. Haley; a son David S. Haley; son-in-law, David Gruenewald and grandsons Jon D. Gruenewald and Thomas J. Gruenewald.
Services: 10 a.m., Thursday at Immaculate Conception Church, 400 Salt Springs Road. Fayetteville. Burial will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Norwich. Friends and family may call from 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, at the Eaton-Tubbs Fayetteville Chapel, 7191 E. Genesee St. Fayetteville NY 13066.
