Sandra Ingraham


NORWICH – Sandra G. “Sandy” Knapp Ingraham, 76, a life long resident of Norwich, passed away early Wednesday morning, Nov. 2, 2011, at the home of her daughter in Sherburne following a brief illness.
Sandy was born in Norwich in December of 1934, the daughter of Burt and Helen Manning Knapp. She grew up in the Norwich area and was a 1954 graduate of the Norwich High School. On Aug. 14, 1954 in Norwich, she married Richard Ingraham, who passed away Sept. 4, 2000. Over the years she had worked for the F.W. Woolworth, Bennett Ireland, Roser’s Bakery, the Victory Market offices and worked as a day care mother taking in foster children. In later years Sandy worked with her husband in the operation of their business and as a cafeteria monitor at Gibson School.
Sandy first and foremost loved her children dearly and enjoyed spending time with them. She was a “people person” who truly enjoyed helping others by doing volunteer work at the soup kitchen, working as a Girl Scout leader many years ago and loved her camping and traveling.
Sandy is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Tina and Peter Pudney of Sherburne; her grandchildren Daniel Pudney and his wife Jennifer of Sherburne, Jenna Ziarko and her husband Jason of Yorkville and Kaitlyn Pudney of Cherry Hill, N.J.; her great grandson Colin James Pudney whom she was very proud and her daughter-in-law Arlene Ingraham of Fabius. Also surviving is her niece, nephews and great nephews.
Besides her husband Richard, Sandy was predeceased by her son James Ingraham, who passed away Aug. 3, 1988, and her brother Thomas Knapp.
A graveside service for Sandy was held today, Friday, Nov. 4, at 11 a.m. from the Mt. Hope Cemetery. The Rev. Stephen Reese, pastor of the Columbus Community Church, officiated.
