Lyle Schieferstein


PRESTON – Lyle M. Schieferstein, 88, of Preston, passed away on Oct. 26, 2011 at Chenango Memorial Hospital, Norwich.
He was born on Aug. 13, 1923 in Centerport, a son of John and Emily (Bishop) Schieferstein. On Oct. 13, 1945, he married Lorraine Nichols, who survives.
He is also survived by his children, Lyle A. Schieferstein of Oxford, Kim and Deb Schieferstein of Lewiston, N.C., Linda and Robert Murray of Chittenango, and Jill and Christopher Thompson of Sherburne; his grandchildren, Christopher Tiger of Las Vegas, Nicole Mack of London, England, and Jack Schieferstein of South Otselic; and his great grandchildren, Trinity Tiger, Lucas Schieferstein and Ryan Schieferstein. He was predeceased by his brothers and sisters, Edward Schieferstein, Clara Lawson, John Schieferstein, Bertha Metzner, Thelma Henke, Elsie Reynolds, and Leroy Schieferstein.
Lyle was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He had worked at Egg Gro Technologies and was also a self-employed carpenter. He was a former member of the George Nightengale Post, American Legion in McDonough.
At his request there will be no services. Memorial contributions may be made to the Preston Volunteer Emergency Squad, 124 County Road 19, Norwich, NY 13815.
