Charlotte Aldrich


NORWICH – Charlotte L. Aldrich, 88, of Tiffany Road, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2011 at Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Born Feb. 7, 1923 on the family farm in the Town of New Berlin, Charlotte was the daughter of Hugh and Clara (Anderson) Lingee. She graduated from South New Berlin High School with the Class of 1940. She then received her Bachelor’s Degree from Oneonta State Teacher’s College in 1944. Charlotte spent her entire teaching career in Norwich, beginning at the former South Broad Street School, eventually moving on to Perry Browne where she later entered administration and served first as the Assistant Principal and then as Principal, retiring in 1981.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church for over fifty years and a past member of the Norwich Educators Organization and of the New York State Administrators Association.
On July 9, 1947, Charlotte married Robert E. Aldrich. Robert died on Sept. 17, 2004. She is survived by sisters-in-law, Viola Aldrich, of Otego and Geraldine Briscoe of Unadilla. Also surviving are nieces and nephews, Wesley and Elaine Aldrich and family, Shirley and Gilbert Porter, Barbara and Alfred Finch and family, A. William and Karen Rutherford and family, Donna and Fred Murray and family, Sandra and Robert Hopkins and family, Linda Rae and Ron Avolio and family and Michael Aldrich.
Funeral services for Charlotte will be held at noon on Saturday at the Wilson Funeral Home, 68 South Broad Street, Norwich, with Rev. David Spiegel, Pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Saturday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will take place in St. Paul’s Cemetery following the service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Charlotte may be made to the First Baptist Church, the SPCA or to the charity of your choice.
