Christina Franklin


NORWICH – Christina A. Franklin, 93, passed away Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011 in the Chenango Memorial Hospital.
She was born Nov. 27, 1917 in Preston daughter of Leon and Lucy May (Burgess) Franklin. On Dec. 10, 1933, she married Wallace D. Franklin who predeceased her in April 1978 after 44 years of marriage. They had three children, Norman Wallace, born April 2, 1938, Cheryle Joanne born August 17, 1942, and Gary Roger born July 11, 1946. Their daughter, Cheryle Brammer predeceased her in February 2002.
She lived most of her life (47 years) in East Pharsalia, then four years in Virginia before returning to Norwich. Christina worked not only in the home but did house cleaning, painting, papering for many homes in Chenango County. She loved camping, good times with family and friends, especially dancing and good country music. She played the piano, accordion, and harmonica and ran sales from her garage for many years. She is the last sibling of a family of 13. Her brothers and sisters all deceased: LeRoy, Cecil, Matthew, Richard, Ray, Olen, Clayton, Elbridge, Viola, Louise, Edna, and Mildred.
She is survived by one sister-in-law, Janet, wife of Elbridge; her two sons, Norman (Lorraine) and Gary (Kathleen); six grandchildren: Lisa and husband Sam, Amy and husband Rick, Vicki and husband Chris, Laurie and husband Jeff, Tim and wife Kim, and John and wife Nicole; nine great grandchildren: Daniel, Tianna, Jacob, Patrick, Jessie, Cooper, Sullivan, Mason, and Rachael as well as several nieces and nephews.
Christina was a great conversationalist. Her memory and knowledge of family and friends and their relatives was unbelievable. She loved her family and looked forward to the gatherings and contacts. She maintained a positive outlook and was a joy to be with. She will be greatly missed by her large extended family and friends.
Funeral services for Christina will be held on Tuesday at 10 a.m. from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Ralph Hinman will officiate. Interment will follow in the J.D. Lewis Cemetery of Preston.
Friends may call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Monday evening from 6-8 p.m.
