Betty Smith

NORWICH – After an extended battle with cancer, Betty Colleen Smith went to be with the Lord on Dec. 5, 2006.
Betty lived in the Norwich area for about 35 years. Eighteen of those years she worked for Procter & Gamble as a porter.
Betty loved to fish, tend her garden and was a happy CBer with Raggity Ann as her handle.
After recovering from back surgery in 1991 and retiring from the Pharmacy, Betty had extra time to spend with her family, friends and her pets.  She also had time for her life-long passion of crafting.  She traveled far and wide to sell her crafts at car shows and flea markets.  In later years, she sold her beautiful creations from her own shop at home “Hillside Country Crafts.”
She is survived by two sons, Karl Smith Jr. of Norwich and David and his wife, Cindy Smith of Norwich; a daughter, Cindy and her husband, Morris Butler of Guilford; four granddaughters, Mollie and her husband, Lyle Davis of Schenevus, Melanie Manwarren and companion, Matt Pikul of Guilford, Mindie and her husband, Charlie Friedel of Guilford and Lorelei Coville of Oxford; a grandson, Matt Safford of Staten Island; 16 great-grandchildren and her caring companion of many years, Clarence Austin of Norwich.
Calling hours will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta.
Burial will follow at the Oneonta Plains Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in loving memory of Betty to the Chenango County Hospice, 21 Hayes St., Norwich, NY 13815.
