Nancy Adsit


SHERBURNE – Nancy A. Adsit, 69, formerly of Norwich, most recently of Sherburne, passed away on Thurday afternoon, Oct. 6, 2011, in the Chenango Memorial Hospital.
The daughter of Frank and Dorothy deThestrup Carson, Nancy was born in Endicott in September of 1942 and grew up there while attending school at Oswego Free Academy. Nancy moved to Norwich in 1966, to take employment with the Norwich Pharmacal Company. After her marriage to Hoyt Adsit in Sherburne on Feb. 1, 1974, she took an active part in helping him on the family farm. In 1988, Nancy joined the political arena and remained active until 2000. She then went to work for the Oneonta Bus Lines and Eastern Travel as a tour escort for a time, later becoming the Administrative Assistant to the Vice President of New York Central Insurance Company, from which she retired. Nancy was a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Christy Rock Post 2782 of Norwich.
Nancy is survived by her husband, Hoyt Adsit of Sherburne; by her mother, Dorothy Carson of Endicott; her son, Richard Adsit and wife Jackie of North Carolina; and step-children: Robert Adsit and wife Jennifer of Sherburne, Louise Breckan and husband Karl of Palantine, IL; and Hoyt “Fred” Adsit Jr. and David Adsit, both of Sherburne. Also surviving are Nancy’s sister, Diane Gordon and husband Thomas of Endicott; her brother, Dale Carson and wife Lee of Saint Albans, VT; her grandchildren: Heather, Jessica, Logan, Joshua, and Emma; and nieces and nephews. She is also survived by Karen Salisbury, whom she thought of as a daughter, and Janette Nigolian of Sherburne, Nancy’s sister-in-law.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Nancy was held on Monday at 11 a.m. from St. Malachy’s Catholic Church. The Rev. Lester Smith, Pastor, officiated. Interment followed in the Sherburne West Hill Cemetery.
Arrangements were by the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home.
