Arlene Pike


NORWICH – Arlene E. Pike, 77, a life long resident of the Norwich area, passed away Sunday, Sept. 18, 2011 in the Residential Health Care Facility of Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Arlene was born in Norwich in September of 1933, the daughter of Raymond and Mary Baylor Salisbury. She was educated in the Norwich and Sherburne schools and was a graduate of the Sherburne High School. On March 5, 1955 in Norwich, she married George W. Pike, who passed away Dec. 18, 1999.
In her early working career, Arlene trained as a nurses aide at the Fox Hospital in Oneonta where she also worked for a period of time. Following her marriage she and her husband lived for a short time in Gilbertsville before moving back to Norwich. Once in Norwich, Arlene was employed by the Chenango Memorial Hospital for 30 years until her retirement. Not one to sit idle, she went to work doing private home care as well as working for NBT as a custodian. She may also be remembered as a crossing guard in the city of Norwich for several years.
Arlene will be remembered as a quiet woman who enjoyed collecting tea pots. She was also very much involved with her husband and sons in their stock car racing adventures.
Arlene is survived by her son Ray Pike of Norwich, her grandchildren Christopher Pike and Rachel Curtis, daughter-in-law Sherry Pike of Sherburne, her step-sisters Pauline Dunn and Doris Burlingame and husband her Roy all of Norwich. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Besides her husband George, Arlene was predeceased by her sons Marty and Charles Pike, her sister Joyce Bush and brother Raymond Salisbury.
Graveside services for Arlene will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. from the Mt. Hope Cemetery. The Rev. Jeremy Stopford of Earlville will officate.
