James Delaney


UNADILLA – James J. Delaney, 88, of Unadilla passed away Friday, Sept. 2, 2011 at Chenango Memorial Hospital in Norwich.
He was born in North Hampton, Mass. on May 9, 1923 the son of the late Dennis and Louise (Martin) Delaney.
James enlisted in the  United States Navy on March 3, 1943. He was a World War II Veteran and honorably discharged on January 12, 1946.
Married Laura Pratt on February 10, 1946 in Oquaga,. She predeceased him on February 6, 2008 after 62 years of marriage.
James worked most of his life in manufacturing as a machinist and quality inspector. For many years he was an umpire or referee for multiple sports from high school to semi-pro baseball level. He continued to umpire at Double Day Fields through 2010.
James is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law: James E. and Gail Delaney, Jacksonville, Fla., Terry and Cindy Delaney, Maineville, Ohio; three daughters and two sons-in-law: Cindy Brisack, Norwich, Colleen and Henry Hetzel, Guilford, and Annette and Tim Wright, Oxford; 11 grandchildren: Travis Brisack, Erin Graham, Joshua, Bradley, Dedra, Collin and Haley Delaney, Tiffany and Marissa Hetzel, Christie Somers and Dillon Wright; four great grandchildren: Justin, Payton and Skyler Graham, Kiera Somers.
Friends may call Wednesday, September 7, 2011 from 10 to 11 a.m. at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel 21 Main St. Sidney. A memorial service will follow at 11 with Fr. Chuck Taylor, Pastor of St. Andrews Episcopal Church in New Berlin officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of ones choice.
