Robert Knudsen


HAMILTON – Robert B. Knudsen, 89, formerly of 9 Charles St., passed away Sunday, Aug. 22, 2011 at Crouse Community Center, Morrisville.
He was born on Oct. 31, 1921 in Clovis, New Mexico, a son of Will and Sarah Knudsen. Robert graduated from Tiban New Mexico High School and joined the U.S. Army where he served as a gunnery navigator during World War II. After the war Robert graduated from Oklahoma A&M and moved to Central New York where he became a math teacher at Rome Free Academy and met his future wife, Doris Ulrich. They were married April 9, 1954, and moved to Willey Rd. Poolville. Robert continued to teach math at Sherburne-Earlville Central School and completed his master’s degree from Syracuse University.
Robert was an avid gardener, woodworker and biker. He was an active volunteer with the Office for the Aging and never missed the opportunity to be kind and generous to his family, friends and neighbors.
Doris predeceased him on Jan. 1, 2000. He is survived by his sister, Ruth Lemley, San Diego, California; his nieces Deborah Ables, Beverly Hyland, and Billie Knudsen Welton; his nephews, Donald Baines, Glenn Baines, Rodney Lemley, Gerald Knudsen, Max Knudsen and Roger Knudsen.He was predeceased by a sister, Audrey  Baines.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, Hamilton. In keeping with his wishes, there wil be no services.
