Rose Gladys Sanders


SOUTH NEW BERLIN – Rose Gladys Sanders, 89, a longtime resident of South New Berlin, passed away early Tuesday morning, Aug. 16, 2011 at her home.
Rose was born in the Town of Walton in Sept. of 1921, the daughter of Raymond and Blanche (Chamberlain) Wilcox. As a young child Rose moved with her family to South New Berlin, where she attended and graduated from the South New Berlin High School with the Class of 1939. In 1945, she married Stanley Leland Sanders who passed away in 1975. Rose worked for a period of time for Montgomery Ward, but her main employment was with the United States Postal Service. She worked for many years as a postal window clerk in the South New Berlin Post Office and also as a substitute in the New Berlin and Edmeston Post Offices.
Rose had been active in the Home Bureau from the mid 1940’s through the mid 1950’s and had also been a 4-H Leader from the mid 1940’s through the mid 1960’s. She was also a member of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church of South New Berlin.
Rose is survived by her daughter Lucy Mae Sanders of South New Berlin, her nieces and nephews, Frederick (Gertrude) Brooker of Norwich, Janice (Clyde) Beach of So. Plymouth, Edward (Mona) Truesdell of Newburgh, Ronald (Joann) Livingston of Woodbridge, Va., Royce (Susan) Livingston of Otego, Randy (Marie) Livingston of Unadilla and Winifred (Dale) Sortman of Greene. Several great nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Besides her husband Stanley, Rose was also predeceased by her sisters Thelma Brooker, Shirley Truesdell, Pearl Livingston and Mary Whitmore and her half brother Ivan Forsythe.
Private graveside services for Rose will be held from the Riverside Cemetery of South New Berlin. The Very Rev. Charles Taylor will officiate.
There will be no calling hours.
