Josephine Dinoto


NORWICH – Josephine DiNoto, 95, formerly of Adelaide Street, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Nov. 30, 2006 at the Chenango Memorial Residential Health Care Facility.
Josephine was born in Norwich on Oct. 26, 1911, the daughter of Frank and JoAnina (Fazio) Sastri. She lived most of her life in Norwich. She resided for a time in Florida, Arizona and North Carolina before returning to Norwich in 2000.  She had worked for fifteen years as a solderer and brazier at the former Bennett-Ireland Company.
Josephine was a loving mother and grandmother, devoted to her family.  She was an avid bingo player and loved crocheting.  She will be greatly missed.
Josephine was a member of the Church of St. Bartholomew.
On Janu. 22, 1927 in St. Bartholomew Church, Josephine married Salvatore DiNoto. Salvatore died on March 2, 1976. Surviving are three sons, Frank DiNoto of Fishkill, Robert and his wife Marie DiNoto of Norwich and James and his wife Pauline DiNoto of Endwell; a daughter, Josephine Lojewski of Deerfield, Fla.; nine grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; two sisters, Rose Phelps Mary DelMonte; and two brothers, Salvatore and Joseph Sastri. Several nieces and nephews also survive.  She was predeceased by a sister, Catherine DiNoto and brothers James, Tony and Angelo Sastri.
A Mass of Resurrection for Josephine was held at 11 a.m. on Dec. 4 at the Church of St. Bartholomew, with Rev. Lester Smith of St. Malachy’s Church in Sherburne officiating. Burial took place in St. Paul’s Cemetery.
