Jean Van Ingen


 NORWICH – Jean Viola Malcolm Van Ingen, died in Norwich on July 22, 2011 at Chenango Memorial Hospital.
She was born Dec. 14, 1926 in Buffalo, and grew up in Rochester. She graduated from Irondequoit High School, got her BA from the University of Rochester and her MLS from Syracuse University. Jean was active in the Episcopal Church. She was a librarian and/or taught at many area schools including Morrisville-Eaton, Georgetown, Proctor High School and SUNY Morrisville before retiring. Jean married John Visger Van Ingen on July 7, 1951 in a double ceremony with her sister and brother-in-law, Roberta and John Armstrong. They lived in Morrisville until their illnesses forced them to move to Gilmour Nursing Home of Norwich to be near her loved ones.
She was predeceased by her parents, Walter and Viola Goodrich Malcolm and her husband, John V. Van Ingen. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Roberta and John Armstrong; her dearest friend, Madelyn Harmon; her son and his family, John Van Ingen and Jean Ross, Danielle Ross and Mark Ross of Norwich and her granddaughter Katrina and Chris Vant of Fulton. She is also survived by her daughter and her family, Jennifer and John Gourley, grandchildren John, Levi and Lindsay Kate Gourley of Alaska; as well as many nieces, nephews and the children she taught and loved.
Friends are invited to call at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, Hamilton on Tuesday from noon until 2 p.m. prior to the service.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday from the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 25 Broad St., Hamilton.
Interment will be at the convenience of her family in the Saratoga National Cemetery.
