Mary Roberts


SHERBURNE – Mary A. Roberts, 64, of County Hwy 24, passed away Sunday, July 17, 2011 at Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester.
She was born Oct. 14, 1946 in Norwich, a daughter of Anthony and Jennie Ponsie Cappadonia. Mary was a graduate of Sherburne High School, and earned her Associate Degree from Central City Business Institute in Syracuse. She had worked for Procter & Gamble in Norwich for 35 years until retiring in 2000. Following that, she worked at Opportunities for Chenango for several years.
On April 20, 1968, Mary was united in marriage to John N. Roberts in St. Malachy’s Church, Sherburne. She enjoyed several hobbies, including reading, crocheting and supervising her husband’s gardening efforts. Mary was a loving and selfless person who always put everyone else’s needs before her own.
Surviving are her husband, John; her children John, Jr. and Angie Roberts of Bainbridge; Lisa and Roger Shackelton of Norwich; and Jennifer Roberts of Sherburne; five grandchildren, Taylor and Madison Shackelton; Ben, Sam and Anthony Roberts; a sister and brother-in-law, Joan and John Asma of Sherburne; three brothers and sisters-in-law, David and Alice Cappadonia of Sherburne; Anthony and Anita Cappadonia of Earlville; Jerry and Wilma Cappadonia of Sherburne; and several nieces, nephew and cousins. She was predeceased by a brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Laurentia Cappadonia.
Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday from the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne.
Interment will be private at the convenience of her family.
Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. prior to the service.
