Stanley Sherman


GARDNERVILLE, Nev. – Stanley H. Sherman Jr. was born Dec. 20, 1932 the only child of Stanley and Marquerite Sherman in Norwich. He passed away June 24, 2011 at 79 in Gardnerville, Nev.
He is survived by his wife, Anita, of 59 years. Also surviving is a daughter Susan and her husband James Dussinger and a grandson Michael who reside in San Juan Capistrano, Cal., two sons Terry and Rob Green of Denver, Co., Thomas and Danie Miller, grandson Steven Grazioli and Cheryl, and great-grandchildren Emma and Nathan Grazioli, all of San Clemente, Cal. First cousins, Martha Stawell, Matthew and Jerry Sherman also survive. Anita’s brothers Terry and Tom Tomsic, her late sister Sally’s families are among others he leaves.
After graduating from Norwich High School and Binghamton State Technical Institute, Stanley was employed by Scintilla in Sidney and General Laboratories Associates in Norwich.
While living in Norwich, Stan’s interest in amateur radio became a favorite hobby. He had contacts with ham radio operators around the world. Hunting with family and friends was looked forward to in the fall. A love of reading filled his spare time.
From Norwich, Ridgefield, Conn. was home for nine years. Working with wood became his hobby with the building of antique clock replicas.
In 1976, Stan and his family moved to San Juan Capistrano, Cal. upon his retirement. He was employed by ACI-ACL Eilco in Santa Ana, Cal. He then took up woodworking in earnest, building furniture and children’s toys. He and Anita learned to square dance and continued to do so in Northern Nevada where they purchased their retirement home in Minden. Many close friendships and fond memories came about from that fun activity of 35 years.
He is remembered for his wit, the love of telling a story and his engaging friendly personality.
