Alice Curtis

NORWICH – Alice M. Curtis, 74, a life long resident of Norwich and long time employee of Chenango Memorial Hospital, passed away Sunday evening, July 10, 2011 at the Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Alice was born in Norwich on Dec. 6, 1936 the daughter of Salvatore and Josephine Marshall D’Angelo.
A 50 year employee of Chenango Memorial Hospital, Alice was well known and respected in all areas of the hospital. She began her career in the maternity dept. of the hospital where many new mothers were the recipient of and enjoyed her famous back rubs. Alice later worked in the x-ray dept. from which she retired.
Alice was a born mother and a very giving person. She had donated blood since she was a young girl and continued to do so regularly throughout her life. Alice was very proud of the fact that she saved her sister Eleanore’s life with a stem cell transplant and was a cancer survivor herself. Aside from caring for her family and patients she was also very fond of her two cats who were her close companions, one of which was rescued from the SPCA. In her “spare” time Alice enjoyed trips to Turning Stone for bingo and eating out with her friends as well as crusing and camping at Guilford Lake.
To sum it up, Alice was a selfless and loving friend to all.
Alice is survived by her only child Laura Curtis and her husband Gerry Olin of Unadilla, her surrogate daughter Jacquie Howe, her sister Eleanore D’Angelo of Brookfield, Conn. and her brother Francis D’Angelo and his wife Janet of Oxford. Also surviving are her nieces and nephew, Teresa (Wayne) Eng of New Milford, Conn., Francis (Diane) D’Angelo of Cleveland and Kathleen D’Angelo of Clifton Park. Several great nieces, great nephews and cousins also survive.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Alice will be held at 11 a.m. Friday from St. Bartholomew’s Catholic Church. The Rev. Ralph Bove, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Paul’s Cemetery.
Friends may call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m.
In keeping with Alice’s fondness of animals, please consider memorial contributions to the Chenango County SPCA, 6160 Couonty Road 32, Norwich, NY 13815.
