James Crowell


EATON – James J. Crowell, 79, of Mechanic Street, passed away Friday, July 8, 2011 at his home.
He was born Dec. 4, 1931 in Sherburne, a son of Irwin P. and Gunhilde Svenson Crowell and received his education in Earlville schools. Jim joined the U.S. Army in 1950, serving in the 82nd Airborne Division during the Korean Conflict until his discharge in 1954. On April 7, 1956, he married Lillian Westcott in Mt. Upton. She predeceased him on Nov. 28, 2008. Jim was a machinist at Oneida Ltd. in Sherrill until his retirement. He enjoyed camping and woodworking and he loved to travel.
Jim was a member of the Eaton Community Bible Church and a former member of the Eaton Fire Department.
Surviving are his children, Yvonne and Scott Betts of Hamilton; James and Diane Crowell of Morrisville; Jeffrey Crowell of Eaton; Yvette and Richard Bowie of Oriskany Falls; Jason and Jamie Crowell of Hamilton; sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Tony Salerno of Canastota; brother, Thomas Partridge of Fletcher, N.C.; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Mary Crowell and Bea Crowell, both of Georgia; Catherine and Carlton O’Dell of Guilford; Caroline Brennan of Endicott; LeRoy and Delores Westcott of Guilford; 10 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Marjorie Westcott and three brothers, Edwin, Reginald and Erwin Crowell II.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Eaton Community Bible Church, followed by interment with military honors in the Eaton Cemetery.
Friends are invited to call at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 25 Broad St., Hamilton on Monday from 5-8 p.m.
