Hubert O’connor

BUFFALO – Hubert William “Hubie” O’Connor, 63, formerly of Sherburne, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, June 8, 2011.
He was born April 15, 1948 in Norwich, a son of the late Edward and Alice Braks O’Connor. Bill graduated from Sherburne High School in 1966 and attended Canisius College. He moved to Buffalo after college, but always enjoyed returning to his Sherburne hometown for family reunions and special events. He once worked for the City of Buffalo, but eventually discovered that his true calling was tending bar where his personal skills could shine. He worked for several Buffalo establishments including, for the last 20 years, Del Denby’s where his infectious smile, Irish good humor, and endearing personality were well-known by patrons including the many he befriended. He was very proud of his Irish heritage, and dearly loved his friends and family.
Surviving are his beloved sister, Judith Woodard (O’Connor) of Syracuse; two nephews, Brendan Woodard of Nutley, New Jersey and Matthew Woodard of White Plains, New York; two nieces, Noelle Woodard of Syracuse and Anna DeCrups of Bogota, Colombia; an aunt and uncle Dorothy (O’Connor) and Harold Wood of Jamesville; many cousins, and special friend Ellen Harmon of Buffalo. He was predeceased by a sister, Maureen (O’Connor) DeCrups, and a brother, Edward H. O’Connor III.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday at St. Malachy’s Church, Sherburne followed by interment in St. Malachy’s Cemetery.
There are no calling hours.
Contributions in his memory may be made to the Chenango County S.P.C.A., 6160 County Rd. 32, Norwich, NY 13815.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, Sherburne.
