Gerald Scudder


OXFORD – Gerald “Tom” Scudder, 87, of Oxford ,passed away on June 21, 2011 at Chenango Memorial Hospital.
He was born on Sept. 7, 1923 in Delhi, the son of the late Howard and Myrdle (McCellenon) Scudder.
Tom is survived by his wife, Donna Scudder of Oxford; his children, Gary Scudder of Oxford, Roy Scudder of Binghamton, Simon Shore and Kim Phillips of McDonough, Joy and Tim Lawrence of New Berlin, LaDonna Shore of Oxford, Heather and David Burton of Hamilton, Cinda and Bruce Hardy of Wolcott, and Mary and Bob Chidester of Port Crane; his sister, Muriel Ross of Oneonta and his grandchildren, Randi Lawrence, Alexandria Shore, Kasaundra Shore, Michael Potter, Simon Shore, John Vest, Keith Vest, Michael Shore and Rose Bush, as well as best buds John and Mary Ellen Sherman. He was predeceased by his twin sister Geraldine Van Hoesen in 1958; his sons, Bruce Scudder in 1987 and Armond Shore in 2009; his daughter, Harriet Shore in 2003 and his granddaughter, Sandy Brown Custer in 2010.
Tom was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in the European Theatre. He was a life member of Fort Hill Post #376, American Legion and was a member of the honor guard and was 2nd vice president of the Post. He was a life member of Christy Rock Post VFW. He retired from the Raymond Corporation as a welder. He was an avid Atlanta Braves fan.
Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Friday at the Behe Funeral Home, 21 Main St., Oxford with the Rev. Allen Lang officiating. Burial will be on Saturday at 11 a.m. in Evergreen Cemetery, Fabius, with full military honors.
