Edwin Horton


NORWICH – Edwin A. Horton, 56, of Grotsinger Road, Norwich, passed away early Fri. morning (Dec. 1, 2006) at the NYS Veterans Home of Oxford following a long illness.
Born in Norwich on March 26, 1950, Eddie was the son of Edward and Myrtle (Blackman) Horton. While growing up in Oxford, he attended the Oxford schools, graduating with the Class of 1969. Eddie entered the United States Army on Sept. 15, 1969, and served his country through his honorable discharge in March of 1972. On July 28, 1984, in St. Bartholomew’s Church, he married Patricia Natoli. Throughout his life, Eddie loved music. He had attended many bluegrass festivals, collected LP’s and 45’s for years, and was especially fond of Johnny Cash. He was a good-hearted man who had many friends and would take anybody anywhere if they needed a ride. He had worked for 20 + years as a courier for the mail room at NBT in Norwich.
Eddie is survived by his wife of 22 years, Patricia Horton, and by his father, Edward Horton, both of Norwich. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, John Natoli and his wife Louise of Lagrangeville, and their four children: Timothy of Springfield, Mass., Diane of Vernon, and Andrew and Christopher of Lagrangeville; by aunts and uncles: Grace and Leon Franklin of Pharsalia, Helen Markham of Norwich, Carl and Mary Blackman of South Plymouth; Lester Blackman of Preston, Leslie and Joyce Blackman of Preston, Art Blackman of Plymouth, June Manwarren of Florida, Fred and Bertha Blackman of Pharsalia, Leonard Blackman of Smyrna, Doris and Dick Crandall of Norwich, and Lucy Miles of Norwich; by many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and by close friends; Leonard Monroe, Ken King, Martie Lonstein, Margaret McCarthy, and John Homyak. Eddie was predeceased by his mother. Myrtle, on Nov. 25, 2000; and by his beloved dogs. Old Satch, Boomer, and Rex.
A Mass of Resurrection for Eddie will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday from the Church of the Holy Apostle St. Bartholomew’s, with Rev. Douglas Cunningham, pastor, and Rev. Ralph Hinman of the Bible Baptist Church officiating. Following full military rites at St. Bartholomew’s, interment will take place in the South Plymouth Cemetery.
Friends are invited to call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Tuesday, Dec. 5, from 5 to 9 p.m. The recitation of the Rosary will be held at 4 p.m.
