Thomas Loftus


NORWICH – Thomas M. Loftus, 53, of East Main St., Norwich, passed away Wednesday evening, Nov. 29, 2006, in the Wilson Memorial Hospital of Johnson City.
Born in Norwich on May 25, 1953, Tom was one of the three sons of John and Audrey (Duffy) Loftus. He attended school in Norwich, graduating with Norwich High School’s Class of 1971. Furthering his education, Tom earned his bachelor’s degree at Binghamton University and his master’s degree in social work at Marywood University of Scranton, Pa. Tom was a Norwich resident most of his life and worked in the home health care field. A man who loved to talk, one of his joys was to get into a really good debate with anyone who would debate with him.
Tom is survived by his mother, Audrey Loftus of Norwich, and by his brothers: Joseph J. Loftus and wife Johneen of Norwich and James G. Loftus and wife Valerie of Ft. Lee, N.J. He is also survived by his aunt, Claire Bernardo of Norwich; his uncle, James Duffy and wife Geri of Point Pleasant, N.J.; and nieces, nephews, and cousins. Tom was predeceased by his dad, John “Joe” Loftus, in 1999.
Memorial services for Tom will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Douglas Cunningham, pastor of the Churches of the Holy Apostles, will officiate. Interment will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Monday from 10:30 a.m. until the service at 11:30.
Tom’s family has asked that memorial contributions be sent to the Norwich Emergency Squad, 31 East Main St., Norwich, NY 13815; or to the Lung Association, 61 Broadway, New York, NY 10006.
