Donald Ostrander


MT. UPTON – Donald A. Ostrander, 84, of Mt. Upton and Ocala, Fla. passed away peacefully Saturday, May 7, 2011 with his family by his side.
He was born son of the late Walter and Ruth (Krueger) Ostrander in Rockdale.
Donald married Vivian Williams on Oct. 26, 1947 in Walton. His loving wife predeceased him on March 23, 1994.
He was a soft spoken man that was loved by many. Don enjoyed playing bingo and the occasional trip to the casino. The family offers a special thank you to Donna and Bill for the care given to Don for the past year and a half and to his very special granddaughter, Veronica Miner Valila for the extra time and care she provided for her Grandpa.
Don is survived by four daughters: Gale and Del Borst, Yorktown, Va., Kathy and Paul Benson, Port Charlotte, Fla., Donna and Bill Miner, Ocala, Fla., Eileen Feitsma and Tom Stagnitti, Norwich; two sons: Gary and Barbara Cook, Syracuse and William and Ann Ostrander, Unadilla; 21 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and 4 great, great grandchildren; a sister, Linda Pope, Mt. Upton; a brother, Carroll Ostrander, Rockdale; several nieces and nephews and cousins.
Don was also predeceased by his daughter and son-in-law, Jewel and Howard Wilmarth.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel 21 Main St. Sidney. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral chapel. Pastor Bob Goldenberg of the Circle Drive Alliance Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery in Mt. Upton.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Marion County at www.hospiceofmarion.com or the American Cancer Society, www.cancer.org/donate.
