James Barnes


SHERBURNE – James A. Barnes, 71, of North Syracuse, passed away Saturday, Oct. 28, 2006, at Crouse Hospital after a long illness. A native of Sherburne, he had resided in North Syracuse since 1958. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War and was a member of Cicero American Legion Post 787.
James was co-owner of Exit 35 Tires, Inc. and worked at S&K news stand in the State Office Building. More recently, he delivered flowers for Mulhauser Florist and was an antique dealer and flee market vendor with a specialty in reproduction tin signs. Family and friends were most important in his life. His wife of 47 years, Jill Templar Barnes, predeceased him on Oct. 1, 2004.
Surviving are four children, Vicky Ciccarelli of Eastwood, Kristin (Robert H.) Lum of Mattydale, Jeff Barnes of Buford, S.C., and Jamie (Sam) Formica of North Syracuse; three siblings, Jean (Ward) Dewey, Elsie Bennett and Willis (Barbara) Barnes; two sisters-in-law, Joyce Barnes and Judy Templar; six grandchildren, Jennifer (Scott) Gates, Jessica and Amy Formica, Robert J. Nichole and Brittany Lum; two step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and faithful friend, Xia.
Services were held on Tuesday, Oct. 31 at 1 p.m. at Fergerson Funeral Home with burial following in Oakwood Cemetery. Friends called Monday from 4:30 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home, 215 South Main St., North Syracuse.
