Marie Crandall


NORWICH – Marie Y. Crandall, 88, of Canasawacta Street, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 22, 2011, at the Norwich Rehabilitation and Nursing Center with her family by her side.
Born in Amsterdam, NY, on Dec. 5, 1922, Marie was the daughter of Raymond and Nellie (Page) Jones. On Jan. 5, 1947, Marie married Kasson H. Crandall, who predeceased her.
Marie spent most of her working days as an audio-visual aide at Norwich High School. She was known as “everybody’s friend” and for preparing the “best potato salad in the world.”  Marie enjoyed music, especially playing the piano and singing, and also enjoyed dancing. The Crandall family frequently took camping trips and traveled throughout the country.
Marie is survived by her children and their spouses, Rae Anne Gross (Herbert) of Valley Cottage; Robert Crandall (Cheryl) of Ballston Lake; Linda Nolan (Richard) of Liverpool; and Thomas Crandall (Julie), also of Valley Cottage. Marie’s surviving grandchildren are Kristin, Lindsay and Lauren Gross; Christopher and Meghan Nolan; Heather and Kayla Crandall, Danelle Nolan (Joseph); Krista Reinhart (Cody); Jeffrey Lewis (Sasha) and Stephen Lewis. She is also survived by Carlos Roman-Lazo, of Quito, Ecuador. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Marie was predeceased by her granddaughter, Katie Allison Crandall, and her sister Lillian Fritzen.
The family would like to especially thank Marie’s caregiver, Marie Higgie, and neighborhood friends for their help and friendship, as well as Dr. Arthur Ticknor and the staff of the Norwich Rehabilitation and Nursing Center for their care and compassion.
A prayer service will be held at the Wilson Funeral Home at 1 p.m. on Wednesday. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. A committal service will take place at Mt. Hope Cemetery immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Marie may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Central NY Chapter, 100 Metropolitan Park Drive, Suite 400, Liverpool, NY 13088.
