Lansing Post

NORWICH – Lansing O. “Bud” Post, 80, a long-time Norwich resident, passed away early Friday morning, April 15, 2011, in the New York State Veteran’s Home of Oxford, where he had made his home for the past two and a half years.
Bud was born in Lyonsdale in August of 1930, and was the son of Harry and Grace Gardner Post. He attended the local schools, then entered the U.S. Navy in December of 1947. Bud received his honorable discharge in December of 1951, and returned to Lyonsdale where he worked on the “high lines.” He later took employment with Andrews Air Force Base as a painting contractor. On Oct. 31, 1959, Bud married Joyce Cummings. In the early 1970s, Bud and his family relocated to the Norwich area where he worked again as a self-employed painting contractor before he and Joyce opened Bud’s Diner on East Main Street in 1975. Bud went back to being a painting contractor and roofer after selling the diner. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was a very frequent patron of the Ontario Restaurant, where he had his own special stool.
Bud is survived by his children and their spouses: Dawn and Greg Mitchinson of Williamston, Michigan, and Rick and Joanne Cummings of Norwich; his sisters, Marlene Doser and husband Paul, and Eve Breen and husband Brian, all of Booneville; and his brother, Irving Post and wife Ellen of Texas. Also surviving are Bud’s grandchildren: Clara, Grace, and Griffin Mitchinson, and Richie and Shawn Cummings; several great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Bud was predeceased by his wife, Joyce, in May of 1994; by his sisters, Bernice and Audrey; a granddaughter, Tammy Cummings; and by his brothers, George, Harry, and Donald.
Memorial services for Bud will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Allen Lang of Oxford will officiate. Interment with full military rites will be at a later date in the Mt. Hope Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m.
Bud’s family would appreciate memorial contributions to the Volunteer’s Guild of the NYS Veterans’ Home, 4207 State Highway 220, Oxford, NY 13830.
