Frances Liberatore


NORWICH – Frances C. Liberatore, 81, of Taylor Avenue, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 8, 2011 at her home.
Born in Norwich on Oct. 14, 1929, Fran was the daughter of Antonio and Mary (Cincotta) Casamento. She graduated from Norwich High School and then earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing and master’s degree in speech and hearing from Syracuse University. Always in search of increasing knowledge, Fran achieved a second master’s degree in education from Oneonta State College. Fran taught fourth grade for over 30 years in the Oxford Academy Central School, retiring in 1991.
Fran was very involved with her children’s lives and especially enjoyed their participation in sports. She and her husband, Yock, loved to travel.  Over the years they visited England, Germany, and Italy. Their trip to Australia where they connected for the first time with many of Yock’s relatives allowed them to fulfill a lifetime dream. Fran was voracious reader and avid golfer.
She was a life long member of St. Bartholomew’s Church and served as a lector and member of the Ave Marie Guild.
On Sept. 1, 1951, in St. Bartholomew’s Church, Fran married Joachim “Yock” Liberatore. Yock died on Feb. 9, 2005. She is survived by her daughters and their husbands, Mary Grace and Paul Timmons of Madison, WI and Frances and Richard Milanesi of Stormville; four grandchildren, Geoffrey Timmons (Kristi) of Indianapolis, IN, Michelle Orhan (Ufuk) of Laurel, MD, Andrew Timmons of Grand Rapids, MI and Matthew Milanesi, of Stormville and a great granddaughter, Leyla Orhan of Laurel. Fran is also survived by a sister, Rose Biviano of Norwich and a brother, Bernard Casamento and his wife, Mary, of Aurora, Ohio. Several nieces and nephews also survive. 
She was predeceased by a daughter, Patricia Liberatore; two sisters, Bertha Davis and Jane Panaro as well as three brothers, Philip, Joseph and Salvatore Casamento.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Fran will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Bartholomew’s Church. Burial will take place at a later date in St. Paul’s Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the Wilson Funeral Home on Monday from 4-6 p.m.
