Edythe Palmer


SOUTH HAMILTON – Edythe Mae Palmer, 88, of South Hamilton, and formerly of Whittier, Calif., passed away Wednesday, March 30, 2011 in the Extended Care Unit of Community Memorial Hospital, Hamilton, after a long and full life.
Born Oct. 12,1922 in Oxford to Leon & Grace (Ardron) Palmer, Edythe was a 1941 Graduate of Oxford Academy. She then joined the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve in 1943 and served active duty from 1952 to 1955 where she worked as an airplane mechanic before she was honorably discharged. Many good times and many good friends were made during these years in the military working as a real life American “Rosie the Riveter.” After her time spent in the service, Edythe found her way to Whittier, Calif. where she lived most of her life filled with laughter and great friends. She was employed as a Beauty Operator (modern day hair stylist!) for Golden Age Adult Day Health Center in Whittier. Edythe enjoyed working with the public and helping others. She was a devoted Christian who loved pets, the LA Dodgers, music & dancing, squeezing babies, and spending time with both friends and family.
Edythe was predeceased by her loving nephew, John L. Murray, July 15, 1950 - Nov. 3, 2004.
Edythe is survived by her sister, Ruth P. Murray of South Hamilton. And Ruth’s children, LeRoy “Lee” Murray Jr. of Fullerton, Calif., Deborah Severin of Sherburne, Jacqueline Markiewicz of Norwich, Patrick Murray of Earlville, and Teresa Cossitt & husband John Cossitt Jr. of South Hamilton. Also, Edythe’s brother, Leon A. Palmer & wife Bettie K. Palmer of Schoharie. And Leon’s children, Yvonne Osterhout & husband John Osterhout of Florida, Leon “Lee” A. Palmer Jr. & wife Patricia Palmer of Newark Valley, Ina Moran & husband Paul Moran of Pioneer, Calif., and Robert Palmer & wife Stephanie Palmer of Richmondville. Too many great & great, great nieces and nephews to count. Cousins, Ralph & Joyce Ardron of Oxford, and their children.
Arrangements have been entrusted with Paul Funeral Home, Madison.
