Michael Mccormick


NORWICH – Michael A. “Mack” McCormick, 63, of Rexford Street, a “true Chenango County legend,” passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 31, 2011, at the New York Veterans’ Home in Oxford, with family and friends by his side.
Born Oct. 5, 1947, in Syracuse, Michael was the son of Aaron and Bernice (LaFurney) McCormick. He graduated from Norwich High School with class of 1965, and soon after his 18th birthday reported for duty with the Navy during the Vietnam conflict. Michael served as a naval engineer aboard the USS Harlan Dickson before being honorably discharged in 1969, and served for three years thereafter in the Naval Reserve. He worked for Victory Markets/Great American, Bytheway Press, and Procter & Gamble, all of Norwich.
Michael was an avid golfer, and had four holes-in-one during his lifetime. He also enjoyed fishing, walking, and, reading. Michael was an active member of the local Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, and the Elks club. He also directed and acted in the Chenango Community Players. His loved ones were particularly touched by Michael’s grace and kindness to others despite his illness. 
Michael is survived by his brother Brian McCormick of Dallas, Texas and Brian’s twin sister, Beth DaSilva, of White Plains, as well as brothers Walt, of White Plains, Denny, of New York City, and Terry of Boston, Mass. He is also survived by fifteen nieces and nephews, as well as several grandnieces and grandnephews.
 A memorial service for Michael will be held at a later time.  Contributions may be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society, 13 Beech Street, Johnson City, NY 13790.
