James Hilsinger


NORWICH – James (Jim) W. Hilsinger, 83, of Liverpool and formerly of Mitchell Street, Norwich, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 18, 2011 at the Iroquois Nursing Home after and extended illness.
Born April 28, 1927 in Cincinnatus, Jim was the son of Clair and Julia (Byrne) Hilsinger. He was a 1948 graduate of Cincinnatus High School and was a World War II Army veteran. He worked for several years for the Ford Factory Built Homes Company in McDonough and also for many years at the Norwich Shoe Company before joining the Teamsters and driving truck for Cossitt’s in Norwich. After his retirement, he volunteered for Meals on Wheels and the Cancer Society by driving patients to appointments.
Jim is survived by his wife of 60 years, Nancy (Quattrocchi) Hilsinger and five children and their spouses; James Jr. of San Luis Obisbo, Calif.; Julia and Hugh Byrne of Jamesville; Pam and Ben Nelson of Bainbridge; Susan and Lou Marinaro of Plattsburgh and Theresa and Tom Hart of Rochester. Jim is also survived by a sister, Joan Cobb of Liverpool and a brother, Lowell Hilsinger of Acton, Calif.; Jim also shared his love and laughter with his 12 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was predeceased by three sisters, Wilma Hilsinger of Norwich, Clara Miles of Cincinnatus and Pauline Trimm of Cortland as well as a brother, Herbert Hilsinger of Homer.
Funeral services for Jim will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the Wilson Funeral Home. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 4-6 p.m. Burial will take place at a later date in St. Paul’s Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting contributions be made to Meals on Wheels of CNY, 300 Burt Street, Syracuse, NY  13202.
