Francis Winton


COLUMBUS – Francis E. Winton, 64, of the Town of Columbus, passed away on March 7, 2011 at his home.
He was born on Dec. 11, 1946 in the Town of Columbus, the son of Raymond and Edith (VanWarner) Winton.
His childhood was spent in Columbus and he attended New Berlin Central School.
Francis was a “jack of all trades” employed by Taco of Sherburne, the Town of Columbus, Victory Markets, AT&T and was also self-employed working as a carpenter, truck driver and backhoe operator.
On July 15, 1967 he married Linda A. Krohn, who survives.
He enjoyed hunting, golfing, riding motor cycle, camping and being with his family.
Francis is survived by his three sons, James & Cheryl Winton of Columbus; Michael Winton & Lana Martin of Columbus; Patrick Winton of Pittsfield, and one daughter, Michelle and Chris Figger of Columbus, as well as grandchildren, Ashley, Gregory, Nathan, Travis, Hunter, Kaitlyn, Brandon, Jacob, Kailee, Collin, and Megan and step grandchildren Robert, Ian and Devin.
He is also survived by his mother, Edith Winton and brothers, Jack Winton; LaVern Winton; Norman Winton & Laurence Winton as well as his sisters, Mrs. Arthur (Evah) Peek; Mrs. Woodard (Linda) Abbott; Mrs. Robert (Gail) Endress and Mrs. Harold (Peggy) Allen.
A celebration of his life will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Pittsfield Fire House with the Very Reverend Charles Taylor officiating. Calling hours will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. prior to the service.
