Eleanor Fehr

NORWICH – Eleanor Jane Baker Hoag Fehr, 91, formerly of Norwich, passed away in the wee hours of Monday, Feb. 28, 2011, in the Mercy Health and Rehab Center in Auburn.
The daughter of Roscoe and Ada Rogers Baker, Eleanor was born in Weedsport in January of 1920. She attended the Weedsport schools, then married Robert Hoag on Jan. 3, 1941. In 1945, Eleanor made the move to Norwich, where she worked for the Norwich Pharmacal Company, the W.T. Grant Department Store, and the S&H Green Stamp Store. She and Bob relocated to New Hartford in the mid-1960s, and he predeceased her in August of 1973. Late in the 1970s, Eleanor married her second husband, George Fehr, who also predeceased her. Eleanor returned to Norwich after George’s passing, living here and working for Maiurano’s Christmas Shop and for the NYS Dept. of Labor’s Green Thumb Program. In the 1990s, she moved to Auburn to be nearer to her daughter, and worked at her last job, the thrift store at Unity House. A lady with an inner drive which kept her moving, Eleanor’s longevity proved that nothing could keep her down.
Eleanor is survived by her children: Robert Hoag and wife Linda of Norwich, Jeanne Washburn of North Carolina, and Sandra Fedigan of Auburn; and by the children of her second husband: Elaine Keady and husband John of Florida, Vivian Tachau of Pennsylvania, and Ronald Fehr of New York. Also surviving are her brothers, Wilbur and Gaynard Baker, both of Weedsport; nine grandchildren and several great and great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In addition to both of her husbands, Eleanor was predeceased by her sisters: Harriet Kehoskie, Winifred Halstead, Barbara Baker, and Clarice Hoag; and by brothers Leon and Clair Baker.
Funeral services for Eleanor will be held at 11 a.m. Friday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Joseph Connolly, Pastor and Teacher of the United Church of Christ, will officiate. Interment will be at a later date in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m.
