Joe Jenkins


NORWICH – Joe Jenkins, 100, of Norwich, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011 at the Norwich Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
Born in Abbeville, Alabama on March 10, 1910, Joe was the son of Lee Parham and Mattie Belle Jenkins. He was raised in Alabama and moved to New York with his brother-in-law, Charlie, in the early 1950s. He was a sawyer and worked his whole life in sawmills, retiring in the 1970s from Baillie Lumber in Smyrna.
Joe loved his family and was a dedicated baseball fan.
He is survived by two daughters, Janice Coulson and Cheryl Clark, both of Binghamton; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; a sister, Annie Genny, of Alabama; and several nieces and nephews including Ronnie Chitty and his wife, Bonnie, of Binghamton. Joe was preceded in death by four brothers, Johnnie, Ed, Oscar and Henry; as well as three sisters, Daisy, Susie and Millie.
At Joe’s request, there will be no formal funeral services. Burial will take place in Alabama at a later date.
Contributions in memory of Joe may be made to the Free Will Baptist Church, 80 Front Street, Binghamton, NY  13905.
