Gena Hansen


NEW BERLIN – Gena I. Hansen of New Berlin, passed away quietly on Friday, Feb. 25, 2011 in the comfort of her home surrounded by her family.
Gena was born on Jan. 9, 1933, in Morris, the daughter of the late Raymond and Myrtle (Bailey) Gould.
She was a lifelong area resident having been born and raised in Morris and then moving to New Berlin. She once belonged to the Tuesday night ladies bowling league in New Berlin. She enjoyed vacations in Atlantic City and attending the BC Open and PGA Championship golf tournaments. She was a long time bookkeeper at Agway Energy Products. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family.
Gena is survived by her companion of 39 years, Robert Hobson; her sons Timothy and James, her daughters and son-in laws Susan and Tom Harrington, Terry and Mick Land, all of New Berlin, stepson Rob Hobson of Racine, Wisconsin; grandchildren Jacqueline, Sara, Melissa, Matthew, Ashley, Shelby, Riley, and great granddaughter Niesha, sister-in-laws Margaret Sadok of Florida, Fran Puskas of New Jersey, and Marge Sikes of Edmeston; along with several nieces and nephews.
Gena was predeceased by her husband, James (Skip) Hansen in 1966.
The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at The Bassett Cancer Institute in Cooperstown and the nurses and staff at Hospice of Chenango County.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Dakin Funeral Home LP, New Berlin with Pastor Nancy Stanley of the Morris United Methodist Church officiating.
Calling hours will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to the funeral service.
Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, New Berlin, in the spring with a graveside service.
