Glenda Voorhis


NORWICH – Glenda E. Voorhis, 71, of Norwich, passed away unexpectedly early Thursday morning, Feb. 24, 2011 in the Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Born in Brisben in October of 1939, Glenda was the daughter of Merlin and Ellen (Voorhis) Palmer. She grew up in the Sherburne and Norwich area and on March 19, 1976 in Norwich, she married Carl Voorhis, who survives. In her early working career, Glenda had been employed by Champion Products and Norwich Togs. Deciding to further her education she entered the cosmetology program at BOCES and in 1982 became a licensed beautician. Glenda was very proud of her accomplishment and practiced in the Norwich area for over 25 years.
Glenda was a very kind and loving person who would always put her family first. She was extremely outgoing and enjoyed a good laugh.
Glenda is survived by her husband Carl of Norwich, her children; George Fowlston and his wife Ellisa of Sherburne and Gina Merritt of Norwich, her grandchildren Todd and Staci Fowlston, Carl Voorhis Cook, Jerry Voorhis Merritt and Cody Mantall. Also surviving are her sisters, Alberta Harkum of Texas, June Mathot and her husband Jerry of Las Vegas, Carol Ray of Norwich and her brother Merlin Palmer and his wife Marlene of North Carolina. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Glenda will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Brandon Samuel, pastor of the First Assembly of God Church in Binghamton, will officiate. Interment will be at a later date in the Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Friends may call the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at 11.
