Dorothy Franklin


NORWICH – Dorothy M. Franklin, 88, of Norwich, passed away on Feb. 18, 2011, in the Norwich Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
Born in Walden, the daughter of James and Dorothy Martin Malone, Dorothy came to the Norwich area as a youngster and spent the remainder of her life here. Following her education in the Norwich schools, Dorothy went to work there, first in the cafeteria, then in the office. Her last employment in her 30-plus years with the school system was as the school tax collector.
On June 14, 1946, in St. Paul’s Church, Dorothy married F. Robert Franklin. A member of long standing with St. Paul’s Church, Dorothy was very involved in its activities, including the Ave Maria Guild, Rosary Society, Ladies of Charity. She also volunteered at the Pink Door, for area blood drives, and for the food pantry at the Emmanuel Episcopal Church.
Dorothy is survived by her children: David Franklin and wife Joanne of Douglasville, Pa., Diane Smith and life partner Lauren Coleman of St. Cloud, Fla., Donna Snell and husband James of Norwich; and her grandchildren: Kris Franklin and wife Lisa, Steven Smith and life partner Jodie Payne, Bryan Smith and wife Alicia, Scott Snell, and Jill Eddy and husband Eric. Also surviving are great grandchildren: Damion Franklin, Brooke Franklin, Elizabeth Eddy, Gabrielle Eddy, and Nathaniel Smith. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, Bob, on Dec. 20, 1990; by her brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Janet Malone; and her granddaughter, Jamie Lynn Snell.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Dorothy will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday from St. Paul’s Church. The Rev. Ralph Bove, pastor, will officiate. Interment will be at a later date in St. Paul’s Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Wednesday from 10-11 a.m.
