Robert Clark


PITCHER – Robert Birdlebough Clark, 89, of Pitcher, passed away suddenly on Friday, Feb. 18, 2010, at the Cortland Regional Medical Center, Cortland.
Born in Pitcher on Sept. 20, 1921, Mr. Clark was the only child born to the late Fred and Lena Birdlebough Clark. A lifelong resident of Pitcher, he was a member of the Pitcher Federated Church. He was a 50-year member and Past President of the Cincinnatus Fire Department and was a Past Captain of the Cincinnatus Fire Police. He was a 65-year member of the NYS Grange holding positions of Master of Local Post #485, Pomona Master, and NYS Deputy. In his early years, he worked on the farm with his father and later operated the same farm. He held various other positions throughout his life, including working at Sherar Feed Store, driving school bus for the Cincinnatus Central School for over 30 years, while at the same time the owner/operator of Bob’s Sanitation. He also served as the former caretaker of the Pitcher Cemetery for several years.
He is survived by his sons, Lucian R. Clark, Timothy D. Clark, and Michael P. (Penny) Clark, all of Pitcher. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Rebecca (Charles Miller), Phillip, Kelli, and Katelynne; a great-grandson, Isaih; daughter-in-law, Phyllis Clark Martin; step-grandchildren, Bob, Jeff, Mike, Don, Doug, Phillip, and Lori; and several cousins.
He was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Edith Stearns Clark, on July 29, 2004 and a son, Vern G. Clark on March 28, 1985.
Funeral services will be held at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, at 1 p.m. on Wednesday with Rev. Palmer Neumeister officiating. Burial will be in Pitcher Cemetery at a later date. The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m.
