Cecelia Kolar


NORWICH – Cecelia Katherine Paszly-Kolar, 91, of Norwich, passed away Thursday, Feb. 3, 2011 in the Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Born Jan. 12, 1920 in South Bend, Indiana, Cecelia was the daughter of Peter and Cecelia Paszli. After graduating from Measel High School she worked as a bank teller in South Bend and subsequently at the LaSal Hotel, where she met her husband, Dr. George E. Kolar, whom she married in June of 1952. Cecelia worked several jobs including, but not limited to Personnel Manager for W.T. Grant Co. from which she retired in 1975.
Cecelia enjoyed many activities including directing plays for her local church. She was President of the Women’s missionary Council and she headed many committees for her church.
Cecelia and her husband George lived in Cortland, for more than 20 years but eventually returned to South Bend, Ind. Her husband George passed away in 1989 but she remained in the community until 2005 when she moved to Norwich to live with her daughter and her daughter’s husband.
Cecelia is survived by her daughter Rose Grady and her husband Thomas of Norwich, her brother Peter Paszly of South Bend, Ind., two grandchildren, Thomas Grady Jr. and his fiancee Susan and girls Ava and Olivia and Daniel Grady and his wife Laura all of Norwich. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Besides her husband Dr. George Kolar, Cecelia was predeceased by her sons John and Rex Toth and her sisters Theresa McCubbins, Ella Paszli and Rose Doczy.
A prayer service for Cecelia will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Joseph Acanfora, Pastoral Care Coordinator for Hospice and Palliative Care of Chenango County, will officiate. Interment will be at a later date in the Highland Cemetery in Indiana.
Friends may call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Wednesday from 5-7 p.m.
