Ruth Barker

PLYMOUTH – Ruth Louise Barker, 65, of Plymouth, passed away Tuesday evening, Jan. 18, 2011, at her home.
The only child of Ralph Edwin and Elsie Louise Nower Garrett, Ruth was born in Norwich in January of 1946. She grew up in Smyrna and attended the Sherburne schools, from which she graduated. For a time, Ruth lived in Earlville and was employed by the Paper Box Factory. For the past 20-plus years, she had made her home in Plymouth. Ruth had also worked for 17 years for Norwich Mills, subsequently Champion Products, and for 20 years for Colgate University, from which she had recently retired. Ruth was, simply put, “just a sweetheart,” a loving and caring person who would do anything for anyone. She always had a smile on her face and liked to joke around from time to time, especially while enjoying Sunday breakfasts at Dusty’s Dairy Bar with her friends. She also enjoyed camping and liked doing crafts.
Ruth is survived by her loving partner and companion of 24 years, Jerry Jackson; by her daughters, Theresa Barker of Wilmington, Del., and Michele Barker-Miller and husband Scott of Bouckville. Also surviving are her step-son, Jeremiah “Jay” Jackson and wife Sarah of Norwich; grandchildren Michael Barker, Brian Miller, and Jordan and Addison Jackson; and great grandson Riley Barker.
Funeral services for Ruth will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home, with Thomas Moore of Sherburne officiating. Interment will be at a later date in Sherburne West Hill Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral home on Saturday from 4-6 p.m.
Please consider memorial contributions to Hospice and Palliative Care of Chenango County, 21 Hayes St., Norwich, NY 13815.
