John A. “jack” Crawford


SAN ANGELO, Texas – John A. “Jack” Crawford departed this earth to join his dear wife on Friday, Jan. 14, 2011 after a courageous battle with cancer. Visitation will be all day Wednesday and Thursday at the Shaffer Funeral Home, 8009 Hwy 87 North in San Angelo, with the family present on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. on Friday in Pioneer Memorial Park with Russ Frasier officiating. Services are under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home/Sherwood Way.
Jack was born Sept. 8, 1934 in Cleveland, Ohio to John and Ethel Crawford. He attended schools in Norwich, after which he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and made a 24 year career during which he served several tours of duty overseas. While stationed at Goodfellow AFB in San Angelo married his loving wife of 37 years, Nelda Burress. Together they traveled the world. He was an avid bowler, dancer and loved to go camping.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Janie Dunham.
Jack is survived by his five children, Nadine Zak of Jacksonville, Fla., Vicki Crawford, Michael Crawford and his wife Linda, Karen Crawford all of San Angelo, Texas, Wray Crawford and his wife Teri of Austin, Texas. He leaves behind two sisters, Katherine Brown of South Plymouth, and Judy Anderson of Norwich, and one brother, Jim Crawford of San Antonio, Texas. He was blessed with ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their heart-felt thanks to Hospice of San Angelo for their love of care. He loved a good practical joke and his sense of humor will be dearly missed.
