Catherine Stevens


AFTON – Mrs. Catherine Mary Miller Stevens, age 83, of Madison, Indiana, entered this life on Nov. 17, 1927 in Afton. She died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2011 at 8:35 a.m. at the King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison, Indiana.
She was the daughter of the late, Joseph & Evelyn Alaska Daniels Miller. She was raised in Afton and attended Harpursville School in Harpursville. She was a faithful member of the Old Fashion Bible Baptist Church in Oxford,. She was united in marriage to Frank E. Elliott and this union was blessed with five daughters. They enjoyed nearly fifty years of marriage together until his death on March 17, 1995. She had retired from the manufacturing industry and had worked as a coil winder. She was united in marriage in 1985 to Richard Stevens, Sr. and enjoyed spending time with his family as well. They shared nearly ten years of marriage together until his death on Dec. 21, 1995. Earlier in life she helped to operate the family dairy farm. She moved to Madison in 1999 and enjoyed helping her daughter in the family business, Scrub Board Laundry. She also enjoyed volunteering at the King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison. She enjoyed socializing with friends and family. She was a very out going person and enjoyed visiting with people. She loved knitting, crocheting, working puzzles and baking earlier in life.  
Catherine will be missed by her loving daughters: Laura Lizotte Wiesenthal & her husband, Edward of Madison, Indiana, Joyce Stevens & her husband, Richard of Winders, Georgia, Nancy Thompson & her husband, Ray of Plymouth; 15-grandchildren, 28-great grandchildren, 1-great great grandchild, several nieces, nephews & other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph & Evelyn Alaska Daniels Miller; her husbands, Frank E. Elliott died, March 17, 1984 and Richard Stevens, Sr. died, December 21, 1995; her daughters, Mary Gleason & Rose Simpson; her great grandson, Michael Scott; her sons in law, Norman Gleason Sr. & Steven J. Lizotte; her brothers, Charles & Richard Miller.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday by Father John A. Meyer at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana.
Friends may call Wednesday from 1 p.m. until time of the service at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana.
Graveside services will be held on Sunday, May 8, 2011 at 2 p.m. in Harpursville.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of  King’s Daughters’ Hospital. Cards are available at the funeral home.
