Grace Harrington


NORWICH – Grace “Betty” Holbrook Harrington, 88, of Norwich, formerly of Oxford passed away on Dec. 1, 2010 at Chenango Memorial Hospital, RHCF.
She was born on Oct. 25, 1922 in Sidney the daughter of the late Kenneth and Grace (LaTourette) Payne. She was predeceased by her first husband, Russell Holbrook, in 1976; she then married George Harrington on July 26, 1980.
She is survived by her husband George and her children, James and Karen Holbrook of Longboat Key, Fla., Jane Cox of Melbourne, Fla. and Connie Smith of Oxford; and her sister in law, Phyllis Payne of Waterville. She is also survived by five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother, Bruce Payne.
Betty was a teller at the National Bank of Oxford for many years. While living in Oxford, she and George helped deliver Meals on Wheels. She loved knitting and cross stitch, which led to her co-ownership of Needle Works Unlimited. She was a member of the Broad Street United Methodist Church, where she was involved with the Soup & Sandwich program.
A memorial service will be held at the Behe Funeral Home, 21 Main St., Oxford, at 2 p.m. on Saturday with the Rev. Jeff Hale officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Oxford.
