George Bump

SOUTH PLYMOUTH – George Bump, known as “Nighthawk,” 75, of South Plymouth, passed away unexpectedly early Thursday morning, Nov. 25, 2010, at his home.
Born in Aug. of 1935, in Cannon, Conn., Nighthawk was the son of William and Myrtle Scheggie Bump. He grew up in the Mt. Upton area where he attended the local schools and held his first job, working on a local farm. Over the years, Nighthawk was employed by Norwich Shoe, Bennett Ireland, and Hutchings Automotive of Plymouth, which was located on the site of the former Clemons Salvage Yard. He was an avid CBer, hence the handle “Nighthawk.” He had a passion for auctions, especially Ted Stith’s auction in Taylor which he attended faithfully. He was also good with electronics in general, but especially enjoyed old-fashioned electronics such as tube TVs.
Nighthawk is survived by his companion of over 20 years, Karen Lenning of South Plymouth, and by Karen’s children, Jason and Kelly Lenning.
A memorial service for Nighthawk will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Stephen Reese, pastor of the Columbus Community Church, will officiate. There will be no calling hours. Interment will be private at the family’s convenience.
