Genevieve Porter


NEW BERLIN – Genevieve Beulah Mumbulo Porter of New Berlin passed away on Nov. 10, 2010 at her home.
Genevieve was born on Jan. 25, 1929 in Edmeston, the daughter of Claude Bernice Mumbulo and Beulah Mae Penner. She was one of 10 children raised on the Mumbulo Farm on Mumbulo Road in Edmeston. She was brought into this world by her father who delivered her.
She married Reginald Edmund Porter on March 17, 1957 and enjoyed 33 years of marriage before he preceded her in death. She is survived by her son, Jeffrey Porter of New Berlin and two daughters, Krista Porter of Norwich and Kelly and son-in-law Robert A. Kalka, Jr. of Georgetown, Texas. She leaves behind two grandchildren, Jonathan Porter Kalka and Lauren Christine Kalka. She is also survived by her brothers, sisters and many nieces, nephews, cousins and family.
Genevieve was Salutatorian of the Edmeston Central School class of 1947 and has been a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church of New Berlin for over 50 years where she was treasurer of the memorial committee, helped with many rummage sales, bake sales, attended bible study and made quilts for the needy with other women from the church. She was chairman of the American Cancer Society in Pittsfield for 25 years. She worked on the Election Board, at the Pittsfield Country Store and the Otsego School. Genevieve was a loving and caring wife and mother who enjoyed being home and raising her children. Her hobbies included knitting, sewing, quilting, reading, church and going out for breakfast.
The family will receive guests for a time of visitation from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Dakin Funeral Home LP, New Berlin. A memorial service to celebrate Genevieve’s life will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday at the First United Methodist Church, New Berlin, with the Reverend Allyson Ellis officiating. A private interment will be held following the funeral service at the Union Cemetery, Edmeston.
The family would like to thank all of the home care workers & Hospice for assisting Genevieve’s wishes to live at home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church, New Berlin, NY or the Pittsfield Fire Department.
