Thelma Brooks


NORWICH – Thelma M. Brooks, 80, a life long resident of Norwich, passed away Sunday, Oct. 3, 2010 at her home in Norwich.
Thelma was born in New Berlin in October of 1929, the daughter of Edwin and Pearl (Knapp) Brooks. She lived all of her life in Norwich and was a 1948 graduate of the Norwich High School. Dedicated to the care of her parents, Thelma spent most of her adult life caring for her parents in their own home where she continued to live following their deaths. She enjoyed the less complicated ways of the world today and spent many hours talking to her friends on the telephone or listening to the scanner. Thelma enjoyed her animals and befriended several cats over the years.
Above all else she was loved by her family and many special close friends.
Thelma is survived by her brother and sister-in-law Charles “Charlie” and Doris Brooks of Norwich, her half sister Louise Swertfager, sisters-in-law Maxine Brooks of Smyrna and Leila Brooks of Norwich. Also surviving are several loving nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews as well as her many close frinds.
Thelma was predeceased by her parents Edwin and Pearl Brooks, her brothers Lewis and Clarence Brooks and her half brother Wesley Miller.
A funeral service for Thelma will be held at 2 p.m. Friday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Jeremy Stopford of Earlville will officiate. Interment will follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Friends may call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Friday from noon until the time of the service at 2 p.m.
