Milton Weeks


SHERBURNE – Milton C. Weeks, 88, of Church St., passed away Sunday, Sept. 26, 2010 at Community Memorial Hospital, Hamilton.
He was born on Nov. 14, 1921 in Norwich, a son of Earl H. and Mabel C. Aylsworth Weeks. He spent his early childhood in Earlville attending school there, and later moved to Sherburne where he graduated from high school. Milt was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during WWII. He was stationed in the continental U.S. and Alaska as a truck driver until his discharge at Ft. Devens, MA in February 1946 with the rank of Sgt. Technician 4th Grade. In November 1947, he married Gertrude E. Downing in Sherburne. She predeceased him in 2002. He was a life long Sherburne resident who worked for the Utica Knitting Co. for 13 years, and following its closure in 1953, he went to work for Norwich Eaton Pharmaceutical Co. He retired in 1983 after 31 years of service.
Milt was a life member of the American Legion Post #876 of Sherburne, where he was a Past Commander and also served in several other offices. He was a member of Norwich Eaton Pharmaceutical Co.’s Quarter Century Club, and a 20+ year member of the Sidney Boat Club. He was an avid fisherman and hunter who loved the outdoors.
Surviving are two daughters, Sheila Ann Schutte of Earlville; Teresa and Kenneth Billings of Homer; two grandsons, Joshua (Jennifer) Billings and Jonathan (Barbara Quinones) Billings, all of Clayton, N.C.; two granddaughters, Wendy (Patrick)Quarry of Holly Springs, N.C.; Heather (Brian) Pinelli of Earlville; great-grandchildren, Peyton Billings, Keira Quarry, Hannah Pinelli and Elijah; a sister, Marion Schlafer of Sherburne. He was predeceased by a son-in-law, Robert W. Schutte in 2006.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday from the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne, followed by interment with military honors in the North Norwich Cemetery.
Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
