James Schaefer


BINGHAMTON – James R. Schaefer, 48, of Binghamton, passed away unexpectedly in Binghamton.
He was born on Sept. 27, 1961 in Norwich, a son of Oscar and Betty Jean (Gibbon) Schaefer.
He is survived by his father Oscar Schaefer and companion Rose Conant of Norwich; his brother, John Schaefer of Oxford; his sisters, Linda Forster and companion Nate Twitchel of Oxford, and Kimberly and Andrew Walker of Norwich. Several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. He is also survived by his many friends. He was predeceased by his mother, Betty Jean Schaefer and his sister, Joanne Schraft.
He was a graduate of Norwich High School, Class of 1979. He served honorably in the US Army for four years. He was a NASCAR fan as well as an avid New York Yankee’s fan. He enjoyed fishing, camping, being near the water and walking in the woods. He also enjoyed wrestling. He was known for helping other people. He loved his cats.
Funeral services were held today at the Behe Funeral Home, 21 Main St., Oxford with the Rev. Thomas I. Ward pastor of St. Joseph’s Church, Oxford officiating. Burial with military honors provided by Fort Hill Post #376, American Legion was in Riverview Cemetery, Oxford.
