PITTSFORD – Ruth V. Torrey, 87, of Pittsford, passed away Thursday, Sept. 16, 2010, after a long illness.
Ruth was a 1940 graduate of Montgomery Blair High School in Silver Spring, Md. and went on to pursue a degree in nursing at the University of Maryland. During her lengthy career she held several nursing positions among them at: WRC Home in Oxford, Veterans Administration in Bath and Saratoga Hospital, Saratoga Springs. Ruth was at the forefront of working motherhood in America, was an active member of the Business and Professional Women’s Association and a regular Presbyterian Church attendee in communities where she lived.
She was predeceased by her parents, Paul and Elfie Viereck, husband of 56 years, James T. Torrey, and sister, Helen. Ruth is survived by her sons, Arthur (Gisela) Torrey and Walter (Kim) Torrey, sister, Edith, six grandchildren, and many, many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Armer Funeral Home, Inc, 39 East High Street, Ballston Spa. A calling hour will precede the service from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will follow at the Gerald B H Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Duell Road, Town of Saratoga.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer Association in Ruth’s memory.
